Abstract:Objective To investigate military pilots' self-medication with coldrex and t propose practical and effective countermeasures.Methods A total of 2105 military pilots recuperating in our sanatorium were surveyed with questionnaires.Results The pilots who had self-medication with coldrex accounted for 74.96% of the total. Those who had self-medication with coldrex within 24 hours before flight and felt drowsy at work accounted for 0.10%,those who had self-medication with coldrex despite their knowledge that self-medication was prohibited during flight preparation accounted for 1.19%, those who took coldrex before flight because of their ignorance of related medication rules accounted for 6.32%, and those who tood the drug without any knowledge of the side-effect of coldrex accounted for 12.49%. 92.31% of the 13 types of coldrex taken by pilots were antihistamine drugs with obvious sedative effects, such as chlorpheniramine maleate and diphenhydramine hydrochloride .Conclusion Military pilots' self-medication with coldrex is currently common, posing a great risk to flight safety. Carrying out Education on medication safety should be carried out among pilots and handbooks on safe medication should be published for them to strengthen pilots' awareness of self-protection and to ensure flight safety.
