Abstract:Objective To investigate the incidence of hypertension among elders and the influencing factors in communities in Jinzhou, Liaoning Province, so as to provide some reference for community prevention of senile hypertension.Methods Between February and December of 2014, 300 elders in Linghe, Guta, and Taihe Districts in Jinzhou were randomly selected by stratified sampling method, who were given questionnaires and physical examinations.Results The incidence of senile hypertension in these communities averaged 40.3%(41.1% among males and 39.3% among females).incidence The difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05). A high incidence of hypertension was found among elders who had had very little schooling (44.3%), who were widowed (61.3%), and those who drank alcohol regularly (39.9%). Logistic regression analysis showed that regular alcohol consumption(OR= 1.659), overweight and central obesity(OR=3.110) were risk factors for hypertension among the elderly, while better education(OR= 0.600, 0.711) were protective factors. Body mass indexinteracted with the ratio of waist to hip.Conclusion Hypertension is prevalent in the elderly in Jinzhou , and is influenced by a number of factors. Community healthcare providers should take appropriate precautions to reduce the incident of hypertension in the elderly.
