Abstract:Objective To investigate the mastery HIV/AIDS-related knowledge, attitude and behavior among autumn recruits in a certain troop so as to contribute to implementation of AIDS-related health education and prevention of HIV/AIDS.Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted with a standardized questionnaire and 118 recruits were enrolled. Factors which influenced the awareness rate of AIDS-related knowledge and attitude were analyzed.Results The awareness rate of AIDS-related knowledge was 85%, but the awareness rate of non-transmission routes was very low. For example, only 38.1% of these recruits knew that mosquito bite could not transmit HIV. There was difference in the awareness of AIDS-related knowledge between recruits with different demographic characteristics. The awareness rate of AIDS-related knowledge among recruits with a education below high school was significantly lower than that among recruits with a high school and university education.Conclusion The awareness rate of AIDS-related knowledge among recruits is very high, but the awareness rate of non-transmission routes of AIDS is very low . It is necessary to improve education related to prevention of AIDS and to cultivate a healthy lifestyle and behavior away from HIV/ AIDS.
