Abstract:Epigenetics is defined as heritable changes in gene activity and expression that occur without alteration in DNA sequences and are sufficiently powerful to regulate the dynamics of gene expression. Epigenetic regulation includes DNA methylation, histone modification, and noncoding RNA regulation. Epigenetic modifications play an important role in the biological growth, development and the etiology of disease. Quercetin, a natural pytochemical, is widely present in fruits and vegetables. Increasing reasearch has indicated that quercetin has very important effects on epigenics. In the present paper, the progress of quercetin in gene methylation, histone acetylation, microRNA aberrant expressions was summarized, and a new mechanism of quercetin in epigenetics was introduced.
