Abstract Acute lung injury / acute respiratory distress syndrome (ALI/ARDS) is a result of intravascular fluid penetration into the pulmonary interstitial and alveolar, causing a large amount of high permeability pulmonary edema. Pulmonary edema formation is an important pathological and pathophysiological change in the ALI/ARDS. In this paper, researches on pathogenesis of pulmonary edema induced by ALI/ARDS were reviewed according to the recent progress in pathophysiology, involving the function disorders of effector cells, the changes of the coagulation fibrinolysis system and the mechanisms of inflammatory reaction. This paper is expected to provide reference for further research.
