Effect of Safflower Meal Extract on Decreasing Serum Lipid Levelsin Rats with Diabetes Mellitus |

Abstract Objective To observe the effect of safflower meal extract on serum Lipid levels in rats with diabetes and provide experimental data for clinical therapy of Ⅱdiabetic mellitus.Methods The SD rats were fed on a diet enriched in fat and glucose to induce insulin resistant. 30 mg/kg streptozotocin (STZ) was injected intraperitoneally to induce hyperglycemia to establish T2DM. The experimental rats were divided into normal control group,model group,safflower meal extract (40mg/kg、80mg/kg、160mg/kg) exposure groups and Xuezhikang treat group(1g/kg) by intragastric administration. After 4 weeks,the rats were sacrificed. We detected serum lipids (TC,TG,HDL-C,LDL-C) and calculated atherosclerosis index.Results The Safflower meal extract reduced the levels of TC,TG, LDL-C and atherosclerosis index of rats with diabetes mellitus. The content of HDL-C in exposure groups were significantly higher than that of the model group,Conclusion The safflower meal extract had apparente effects on decreasing serum lipid 1evels of rats with diabetes mellitus.
