| Association of Procalcitonin, C-Reactive Protein and Lactic acid with Prognosis in Elderly Patients of Community-acquired Pneumonia |

Abstract Objective To explore the association of procalcitonin(PCT), C-reactive protein(CRP) and lactic acid with recent prognosis in elderly patients of community-acquired pneumonia(CAP).Methods A total of 108 cases of elderly CAP patients in a hospital were selected as subbjects between March 2012 and June 2015. They were divided into the severe group(n=41)and non-severe group(n=67),or alternatively the death group(n=23)and survival group(n=85).CURB-65 scores were calculated within 24 h after admission.Chemiluminescence method and immune turbidimetric method were used respectively to determine serum PCT and CRP levels, and the arterial blood lactic acids were detected using the ABL800 blood gas analyzer.Results The levels of PCT〔(8.87±4.65) ng/ml〕,CRP〔(28.03±11.61) mg/L〕, arterial blood lactate〔(5.40±2.23) mmol/L〕 and CURB-65 scores(4.51±1.39) in the severe group were significantly higher than those in the non-severe group. The levels of PCT〔(9.62±4.36) ng/ml〕,CRP〔(32.90±12.03) mg/L〕, arterial blood lactate〔(6.68±1.81) mmol/L〕 and CURB-65 scores(4.81±1.16)in the death group were significantly higher than those in the survival group. Serum PCT, CRP, arterial blood lactate levels were positively correlated with CURB-65 scores (r=0.703,r=0.631,r=0.544,P<0.05).Conclusion PCT, CRP and lactic acid are of diagnostic value for the severity of elderly patients of CAP,.High levels of PCT , CRP and lactic acid suggest a poor prognosis of CAP.
