Abstract

Proanthocyanidins, also called condensed tannins, are representative substances of polyphenolic compounds of natural origin and are widely found in a variety of fruits and vegetables. There is increasing evidence that proanthocyanidins can prevent Parkinson's disease through multiple mechanisms and have been used in experimental treatments of Parkinson's disease. However, there are some inconsistencies regarding the effects of proanthocyanidins on Parkinson's disease. In this study, we used a systematic appproach to comprehensively assess the efficacy of proanthocyanidins in experimental Parkinson's disease models. We aimed to investigate the neuroprotective effects of proanthocyanidins, to provide a reference for the prevention and treatment of Parkinson's disease, as well as a scientific basis for the development and utilization of proanthocyanidin resources.
