Abstract:Objective To explore the correlations between pulmonary artery pressure changes and plasma BNP levels by detecting related indexes of patients with hyperthyroidism in different stages. Methods Ninety cases were divided into three groups in accordance with their thyroid function. The levels of free triiodothyronine (FT3), free thyroxine (FT4) and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) in serum were detected using microparticle enzyme immunoassay method and their pulmonary artery pressure and plasma BNP levels were measured. Results The mean pulmonary artery pressure and incidence of pulmonary hypertension were higher in clinical hyperthyroidism and subclinical hyperthyroidism groups than that in control group. The mean pulmonary artery pressure in clinical hyperthyroidism group was higher than that of the subclinical hyperthyroidism group (P<0.05), so was the incidence of pulmonary hypertension, but the difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05). Plasma BNP values in clinical hyperthyroidism and subclinical hyperthyroidism groups were much higher than those in healthy control group (P<0.05), but there was no significant difference between the clinical hyperthyroidism and subclinical hyperthyroidism groups (P>0.05 ). Pulmonary artery pressure was negatively correlated with TSH levels, but was positively correlated with levels of FT3, FT4 and plasma BNP (P<0.05).Conclusion The level of pulmonary artery pressure increases with the severity of hyperthyroidism and is positively correlated with plasma BNP values so that it can be used to assess the risk of pulmonary hypertension in patients with hyperthyroidism.
