Abstract Objective To find out about the prevalence of abnormal eruption of mandible wisdom teeth and the incidence of pericoronitis in some troops of PLA so as to provide evidence for intervention .Methods Oral examinations were given to 4372 servicemen in the army and 2936 in the navy from Guangzhou Military Command. The prevalence of abnormal eruption of mandible wisdom teeth and the incidence of pericoronitis were investigated and analyzed.Results The survey Results showed that the prevalence of abnormal mandible wisdom teeth among these servicemen was 37.3%. The incidence of pericoronitis was 25.7%. The absence rate associated with pericoronitis was 9.7%. Only 8.959.0% of these servicemen were willing to have their abnormal wisdom teeth pulled out.Conclusion The prevalence of abnormal mandible wisdom teeth and incidence of pericoronitis are high among officers and soldiers in some troops, impacting the routines of troops. Servicemen should be better informed of these diseases and three-stage measures of prevention should be taken.
