Abstract Objective To investigate the new cases of tuberculosis in one military region and provide evidence for effective prevention and control of tuberculosis. Methods A total of 161 new cases of tuberculosis in a military region between January 2013 and June 2014 were selected. The basic information, time of onset, clinical manifestations, treatment status, contact history, vaccination history and other information were analyzed by descriptive epidemiological analysis. Results Among the 161 cases, there were 157 males aged from 18 to 22, accounting for 97.5%. Most cases were sergeants or ordinary servicemen. These cases of tuberculosis were diagnosed as secondary pulmonary tuberculosis, primary pulmonary tuberculosis, tuberculosis pleurisy, extrapulmanory tuberculosis and hematogenous pulmonary tuberculosis. Before the first confirmed diagnosis, 55 patients were diagnosed with tuberculosis (34.2%). Sputum smear results of most patients were negative. Conclusion New cases of tuberculosis are mostly sergeants or ordinary servicemen,so we should focus on knowledge education about prophylaxis and treatment among the key population and enhance their awareness of health. In addition, the rate of misdiagnosis should be reduced and early diagnosis of tuberculosis is recommended.
