Abstract:Objective To investigate the changes of mental health in recruits, so as to provide better psychological services for them.Methods A total of 88 research articles on mental health in recruits examined by SLC-90 in 1995-2013 were collected, and 100 groups of data were analyzed by the method of cross-temporal meta-analysis.Results (1)There were significantly negative correlation between SCL-90 mean scores and data collection year. In the past 19 years, the means of SCL-90 factor scores of recruits decreased 0.17~0.36 (0.35~0.69 standard deviations). (2) There were significant differences in total scores and factor scores of SCL-90 among the air force recruits, the army recruits and navy recruits, total scores and factor scores of SCL-90 in the air force recruits were the lowest, while the army recruits were the highest(P<0.01). There were also significant differences in total scores and factor scores of SCL-90 between male and female recruits. The scores of hostility and phobic anxiety in female were significantly lower than in male, while total scores and factor scores of others 7 factors in female were significantly higher than in male recruits (P<0.05,P<0.01).Conclusion The mental health level of recruits has gradually improvement during the past 19 years. The mental health level of air force recruits was better than army and navy recruits, and that of male was better than female recruits.
