Abstract Objective To compare the disinfection effects between manual cleaning and automatic cleaning and disinfection machines for digestive endoscopy. Methods One hundred digestive endoscopes which had been used between August 2014.8 and March 2015 were randomly divided into the experimental group and the control group (each n=50). The endoscopes in the experimental group were cleaned and disinfected by automatic washer disinfectors and those in the control group by hand.Results There was no difference in the total effective rate, which was 100% in both groups. Conclusion Although no difference is observed in the total effective rate between the two cleaning methods, automatic washer disinfectors can save manpower and time.They should be used preferably in clinical practice.
