Vitamin D is an important nutrient for bone growth and health and also has a very wide range of extra-skeletal effects. Therefore, normal vitamin D status is very important for maintaining human health. Vitamin D is synthesized by the skin under light and absorbed by the intestine from diet, dietary supplements and vitamin D preparations. Due to the limitations of light exposure, it is very important to pay attention to the intestinal absorption of vitamin D, especially for the elderly and people with vitamin D deficiency who need oral vitamin D treatment. This review discusses the absorption mechanism and influencing factors of vitamin D in the intestine, in order to provide new ideas for improving the current situation of vitamin D malnutrition.
